Account Information
When you create an account, we collect:
- Email address — used for authentication and account recovery
- Full name — used for your profile display
- Organization name — used for team/business features
If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive a unique identifier and, if you choose to share it, your name and email address from those services.
Photos and Camera Data
When you use the scanning feature, we access your device camera or photo library to capture images of items. These images are:
- Sent to our servers for AI-powered identification and valuation
- Processed using third-party AI services (Google Gemini) to identify items
- Stored temporarily for processing and then associated with your scan history
- Not shared with other users or third parties for marketing purposes
Scan and Usage Data
We collect information about how you use the app, including:
- Scan history (items scanned, valuations received, recommendations)
- App usage patterns (features used, session duration)
- Device information (device type, OS version, app version)
Subscription Information
If you subscribe to JunkGems Pro, payment processing is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not collect, store, or have access to your payment card details. We receive only a confirmation of your subscription status from Apple.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide and maintain the JunkGems service
- Process your item scans and deliver valuations
- Authenticate your account and manage your session
- Improve our AI identification accuracy
- Send service-related communications (password resets, security alerts)
- Analyze usage patterns to improve the app experience
Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services to operate JunkGems:
- Google Gemini (AI) — for item identification and description generation. Photos are sent to Google's API for processing.
- eBay API — for market pricing data based on sold listings. No personal data is shared with eBay.
- Railway — for hosting our backend services. Data is stored on Railway's infrastructure.
- Apple App Store — for subscription management and payment processing.
Each third-party service operates under its own privacy policy. We encourage you to review their policies.
Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored on secure servers hosted by Railway. We implement industry-standard security measures including:
- Encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS)
- Secure password hashing (bcrypt)
- JWT-based authentication with token expiration
- Role-based access controls
Data Retention
We retain your account information and scan history for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it by law.

You have the right to:
- Access your personal data

- Delete your account and personal data
- Export your scan history data
- Opt out of non-essential communications
